Nothing could be more appropriate to describe the artistic path beaten by piano-based instrumental post-rockers We Stood Like Kings from Brussels, whose nuanced and powerful music has been around for a decade now. Hailed as “one of the most unique instrumental acts around the globe” by Post-Rock Essentials, they have toured Europe extensively in the wake of four full-length albums, rescoring silent cult movies and reinterpreting classical music in a heart-surging effort to breathe new life to masterworks of other art forms. On their latest undertaking Classical Re:works, a challenging, innovative and vital step in the band’s journey, We Stood Like Kings revisit works carefully selected in the entire history of classical music, from the Baroque to the twentieth century.

Surrounded by his own unique android of drums and electronics, Antoine Pierre is widening his already broad musical spectrum quite a bit with VAAGUE. For this brand new solo project, the Brussels based drummer and producer created a collection of samples to fuse organically — and manually! — with his own drum grooves. From pulsating synths over otherworldly vocal snippets to dark and dreamy droplets of sound: each electronic element is blending in perfectly with Antoine’s live played beats. Sometimes hypnotically captivating, then again thriving on downtempo dub vibes, but always inventive and surprisingly layered: this first collection of tracks presents itself as the colourful gateway into a new and exciting musical universe, which is clearly far from finished.
